Aaron "AJ" Johnson is the Owner & CEO of Oasis Fresh Markets and Oasis Fresh Foundation. Before Oasis opened in 2021, North Tulsa, near Historic Greenwood’s Black Wall Street district, had been labeled a ‘food desert’ for over 14 years. AJ became passionate about contributing to long term health for residents in underserved communities when he learned that the life expectancy was 11 years shorter than other parts of Tulsa. Now his vision to create an Oasis in the middle of a food desert has become a reality.
Dr. Lionel Kato is an accomplished educator with over 25 years of experience in the field. He began his career in 1999 as a high school social studies teacher and also served as a middle school math teacher prior to becoming a school administrator. During Dr. Kato's principalships, his schools consistently exceeded academic expectations, experienced low teacher turnover and increased student enrollment. Dr. Kato was recognized as the Pitt County Schools Principal of the Year in 2013 and the state of North Carolina Media Administrator of the Year in 2011. Dr. Kato currently serves as the Assistant Director for Student Support Services in the Danville (VA) Public Schools. Dr. Kato is a veteran of the United States Navy and has earned degrees from Fayetteville State University, East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
